Boyle County Fiscal Court, Danville City Commission and Kentucky Solar Energy Society are partnering to offer Solarize Boyle, a program that will give area homeowners, small businesses, farms, governmental organizations, and non-profit organizations bulk purchasing power to obtain discounted rates on solar installations. Solarize Boyle makes it easier to invest in renewable energy by connecting participants with pre-screened solar installers and by providing access to bulk purchase discounts.

The Solarize Boyle program will help make it easier to go solar by:

  • Pre-screening your home to determine if your property is a good fit for solar;
  • Connecting you with our vetted, experienced solar installation partner, Pure Power Solar;
  • Providing a step-by-step explanation of the solar installation procedure

By going solar, you will:

  • Save money on your energy bill and potentially increase your property value,
  • Reduce your personal carbon footprint and environmental impact,
  • Support local solar jobs

Eligible Applicants: Solarize Boyle is open to all homeowners in Boyle County and its six surrounding counties (Garrard, Lincoln, Casey, Marion, Washington, and Mercer) as well as small businesses, places of worship, non-profit organizations, farm operations, and governmental agencies. A 30% Federal Tax Credit is available for solar PV installations, to businesses and homeowners, and is now also available as a direct payment (rather than a tax credit) to non-profits, schools, and government agencies.

Each Solarize participant is responsible for the full cost of their solar installation, and all contracts are solely between the participating property owner and the solar installer. Boyle Fiscal Court, Danville City Commission, Kentucky Solar Energy Society, and their partners do not assume any liability related to the installation.

Will solar panels work on my roof?

To find out if solar panels will work for your home, business, or organization, from the Solarize Boyle Team. There's no obligation to buy anything.

 The assessment accounts for:

  • The direction your house faces,
  • How much shade affects your roof,
  • The amount of space available on your roof for solar panels,
  • If your roof is not an option, whether another location might work for the solar panels (your back yard, garage, or barn roof), and
  • How much electrical energy, in kWh, you use in a typical year.

 If your property is a good fit for solar, your information will be shared with our selected installer who will reach out to you within three days to discuss the next steps. If it is not a good fit for solar, we will let you know the reason(s) why. If your property has undergone recent changes, a reassessment can be conducted. Before you sign up, please gather the following information: your total electricity useage (in kWh) for the past 12 months and your roof age and material.

Building upgrades can also provide major energy savings.

As you consider installing renewable energy on your home, please be aware that weatherization (sealing around windows and doors), home insulation, and updates to mechanical systems like heat pumps, water heaters, and replacement of old equipment with up-to-date Energy Starr appliances can also provide large energy savings, and in some cases have very favorable return-on-investment.    Intercounty Energy and Kentucky Utilities both provide free consultation and home energy audits, and you can find incentives available to you for energy efficiency improvements with a tool from the non-profit Rewiring America.
