Boyle County Judge Executive Howard P. Hunt, III is pleased to announce that Boyle County has been selected as a regional site for the Driver’s License Office. “We started working on this last spring, as soon as the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announced that they were streamlining the entire licensing process,” said Judge Hunt. “I saw a long range negative impact to our citizens and immediately got to work,” Hunt added.
“I used the same approach that I used to secure a regional vaccination center at Ephraim McDowell Hospital for Covid-19. On May 27, 2021, Magistrates joined me along with our County Administrator as we made our case for Boyle County with a presentation to Transportation officials Ms. Sarah M. Jackson and Commissioner Matt Cole. We have made numerous telephone calls to both Ms. Jackson and even Transportation Cabinet Secretary Jim Gray along with visits to Representative Daniel Elliot and Senator Rick Girdler who also helped advocate for Boyle County,” said Judge Hunt.
Magistrate Tom Ellis added, “Judge Hunt did extensive research before he created a presentation for the Department of Transportation showing 67% of our daily work force is out of county commuters, our retirement and senior citizen demographics are substantial and of course anchors such as the Hospital make Danville/Boyle County a regional hub. He made a compelling case, speaking of the hardship our senior citizens would endure in trying to get a new driver’s license. Judge Hunt used age and income levels to share how difficult it would be for some senior citizens to make their way to Lexington or Somerset just to renew their driver’s license.”
“I would like to thank the Ms. Jackson and Commissioner Cole for hearing us out and for working with my office to improve the Driver’s License services to all Boyle Countians.”
The Real ID Website lists the Regional Driver Licensing Office to be located at 1714 Perryville Road Suite 110, Danville, KY. The new regional office serves any Kentuckian, regardless of county residence.
Standard Driver’s License credentials, for Boyle County residents only, will still be issued at the courthouse at this time.
