Jailer Brian Wofford says the Boyle County Detention Center does not have a holiday release program and does not accept cash apps or prepaid cards for any bills associated with the jail. The callers are falsely claiming the detention center has started a program allowing inmates to be released on an ankle monitor so they can be home for the holidays.
The scammers are requesting several thousand dollars, to be paid through cash apps or prepaid cards. Anyone who receives a call requesting money for this alleged program is asked to contact the Boyle County Sheriff’s Office.
“If somebody’s going be bonded out, all money has to be paid either here at the detention center or at the courthouse on Main Street. We do not do any kind of electronic transfers. We do not accept gift cards,” Wofford said.
Jailer Brian Wofford also said, “This is very smart, especially this time of year, but the thing people have to remember is that a jailer cannot let anybody out unless they serve their time or have a court order. I cannot, any jailer across the state, we cannot come up with programs and allow people out for Christmas on an ankle monitor. That’s not legal.”
